Director Steve McQueen was announced as the winner of the Carl Forman special achievement award at this year’s BAFTA Awards Ceremony for his film about the life of the hunger striker, Bobby Sands.

The film continues to enjoy a successful awards season - scooping two prizes at the British Independent Film Awards for Best first time director and best actor. Other nominations include the Best Film category at both The Evening Standard and South Bank Awards ceremonies.
