Power to the People

We take electricity for granted – never giving a second thought to how it’s made.

But behind closed doors, the controversial Big Six energy companies are struggling to keep the lights on.

Now, for this major new BBC FOUR observational documentary series, one of Britain’s biggest and most controversial energy companies, SSE, has let the cameras in.

Filmed over a year, this is the story of a hidden army of workers toiling to keep the power flowing. From Ferrybridge C power station in West Yorkshire, where 180 workers are struggling to keep their giant coal-fired power station going, to the call centres where angry customers are swamping staff, this series takes us from boardroom to boiler room to uncover the secret life of a power company.
